Platano secolare più grande d’Europa

Tucked within the historic center of Urbino, on Via Valerio, stands a true natural giant: the Ancient Plane Tree, considered one of the largest monumental trees in Europe. This majestic specimen of Platanus orientalis, likely planted in the late 18th century, is estimated to be between 250 and 300 years old, making it a rare example of botanical longevity and grandeur within an urban setting.

Towering over 28 meters tall with a trunk circumference of more than 5 meters, the tree dominates the courtyard of the Valerio Municipal Kindergarten, offering shade, beauty, and a tangible sense of continuity between past and present. Over time, a deep bond has developed between the tree and the local community: generations of children have played beneath its branches, turning it into a silent guardian of Urbino’s collective memory.

In 2022, it underwent careful conservation pruning by certified arborists to ensure its health and safety while preserving its natural majesty.
