Pieve di San Cassiano

Set in the magnificent historical and natural setting of Cavallino, a small village about 7 km from Urbino, the Pieve di San Cassiano is a valuable example of rural Romanesque architecture in the Marche region. Built on a Roman site and documented as early as the 12th century, the church retains its original layout, with sandstone masonry and a simple façade featuring two lateral windows and a central portal topped by a lunette. The interior has a single nave ending in a semicircular apse. Rising from the central apse is a massive stone bell tower, built between the 14th and 15th centuries, which also served as a watchtower due to its strategic position overlooking the Foglia Valley. Inside, fragments of frescoes attributed to the Rimini school are still visible.
