Corso Garibaldi - Portico Volponi

Corso Garibaldi is the result of a major 19th-century urban planning project proposed by architect Vincenzo Ghinelli, aimed at connecting the Sanzio Theatre with Piazza della Repubblica, the lively center of Urbino. The new street was part of a broader plan to reorganize the city’s urban fabric and road network, designed to open the medieval city to evolving functional and social needs. The goal was to improve connections between the historic center and roads outside the ancient walls, addressing the growing demand for mobility that had already become evident in the 1800s.
