Description
Located on the hill of the former Capuchin convent, the University Colleges of Urbino form an innovative architectural complex conceived as a campus-city. Designed by architect Giancarlo De Carlo between 1962 and 1983, they are among the most significant examples of university architecture in the late 20th century. The first building to be constructed was the Collegio del Colle (1962–1966).
Later, in 1973, De Carlo was commissioned to expand the complex, leading to the creation of three new structures: Collegio del Tridente, Collegio dell’Aquilone, and Collegio della Vela. Together, these buildings gave shape to Urbino’s University Campus, a unique model of integration between architecture, landscape, and student life.
