Description
The Church of San Francesco di Paola is an important place of worship with roots dating back to the 17th century. Its construction began in 1603, commissioned by Duke Francesco Maria II della Rovere as a vow for the birth of a male heir. The project was completed in 1614, with the artistic intervention of Antonio Viviani, a Urbino-born painter known as "Il Sordo," who decorated the interior with a Baroque-style fresco cycle.
In 1708, the Compagnia del Corpus Domini, a historic confraternity, moved into the church, making significant modifications. It was during this period that the late Baroque-style facade was completed, giving the church the appearance it has today.
